Reliable communication is important for keeping teams connected and supporting the safety of residents, staff and visitors across busy education environments. Goodenough College needed to improve its radio communications after experiencing ongoing problems with its existing system and supplier, with coverage proving unreliable across parts of the college.

With staff working across multiple buildings and different areas of the site throughout the day, consistent radio coverage was essential. Teams needed to be able to contact colleagues quickly, coordinate everyday activity and respond effectively when assistance was required.

As the existing system was no longer providing the level of communication the college needed, Goodenough College approached MTech to provide a more reliable and professionally supported alternative.

Understanding the Coverage Requirements

MTech worked closely with the Goodenough College team to understand the problems with the existing radio system and what they needed from its replacement.

Following several Microsoft Teams meetings to discuss the requirements in detail, our engineers visited the college to complete a full site survey and radio coverage testing.

This allowed us to assess the different buildings and operational areas, identify locations where the existing system was struggling and establish the coverage required to provide dependable communication throughout the site.

A New Hytera Radio System

Following the survey, MTech recommended a new Hytera repeater system designed to strengthen coverage and provide more consistent communication across the college.

The system included Hytera HP565 and HP505 digital two way radios, giving employees dependable and straightforward equipment for everyday communication.

The repeater infrastructure was designed around the findings of the site survey, helping provide stronger radio performance between buildings and address the communication issues experienced with the previous system.

Reliable Communication Across the College

The new radio system was installed at the end of 2025 and is now fully operational across Goodenough College.

Staff can communicate clearly between different areas and buildings, helping teams remain connected wherever they are working. This supports quicker coordination during everyday activity and gives employees greater confidence that they can reach colleagues when assistance is required.

By replacing the previous setup with a system designed around detailed coverage testing, Goodenough College now has a more dependable communication network suited to the requirements of its site.

With continued support from MTech, the college has a radio system that can support its teams today while providing a reliable foundation for future communication requirements.
